Why Most ‘Get Rich Quick’ Gurus Are Still Stuck in 2005

The Right Tool at the Right Time

I don’t need to tell you that the business world has changed in the past two years.  If you’re in business or an investor or own a TV or ever talked to anyone else, you already know that things have changed.

So, why hasn’t anyone told the so-called Get Rich Quick gurus?  I saw a recent late-night infomercial that was quoting stats from 4 years ago.  That is so 2005!   Even though I can excuse that, I figure it’s because they already had the time booked, or the advertising was so cheap might as well run some old tape.

The ones that surprise me are the people that are active with websites, blogs, forums, social networking – you name it, if it’s hot, they’re doing it.  Great marketing.  Great PR.  But then what do you get?   All they’re offering is the same old thing.

In business, you need to focus on one of two things.

(1)  Creating money

 (2) Freeing time

The most common path is to first create the money and then find out how to extricate yourself from the process to free time.  In reality, if you have a job, you first have to free some time so you can start the whole cycle.  But that’s usually found in giving up some things, not from creating systems.  Most people don’t have a system to create yet.  They don’t have that business running yet.

In the go-go early 200’s, the biggest issue for most business owners was no time.  Now the biggest problem is no business, or no cash.  So, the emphasis often needs to shift back to “how do I create money?” Not how do I create time.

The sad thing is that I’ve seen people who’ve just lost their jobs, who are trying to find a way to replace income, spending money they don’t have on programs that promise to help them learn how to turn their business into the mystical level where cash flows to them effortlessly.

Great! But first you need to get the cash flowing.

It’s a case of the adage, “If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.”  These so-called gurus have a hammer that works great as long as you have a nail that needs to be pounded.  If you have a watch, though, I’d be very careful about going to them to get it fixed.
