Hidden London: Unique Experiences for Business Travellers with a Few Hours to Spare

Travelling for work comes along with a number of known drawbacks: you have the disadvantage over the person whose territory you’re encroaching upon; you’re in an unfamiliar place; and finally, with few commitments and those mostly during business hours, you end up with quite a lot of time on your hands. But why not make the most of those two, three, and four hour chunks of time by getting to know a few of London’s hidden places? There are so many unique experiences for business travellers with a few hours to spare. Let’s have a look at just a few.

Get a Treatment

Many of London’s hotels and resorts are home to high-end spas and beauty salons, and you don’t have to be staying at the hotel to make use of their facilities. When you are arranging your accommodation – perhaps a serviced apartment from which you are going to conduct your business meetings – enquire about reciprocal services with these outlets and book yourself in for some rejuvenating and pampering treatments to set you up nicely for the rigours of your meetings during working hours. If you are looking for a pied á terre that is a bit more intimate than a hotel room, discover London aparthotels here – in-room treatments are available at many aparthotels.

Visit a Historic Site

London has been continuously (more or less) occupied for the last two thousand years, and what modern London is largely built on and around is ancient London! While this wealth of previous habitation has no doubt given construction companies numerous headaches, it does mean that that city is bursting with glimpses into the past: from the London Amphitheatre (discovered only in 1988, but dating all the way back to Roman Londinium in 70AD); to the London Mithraeum (a Mithraic temple dating to 200 or 300AD); or even St-Dunstan-in-the-East, a church which was bombed during the Blitz. Rather than run to the expense of repairing the church, instead it has been allowed to weather gracefully in the manicured grounds which now provide a welcome respite from the bustle of the metropolis. Visit one or all of these sites, or simply walk around and see how many fascinating locations you discover as you go!

Pop to the Markets

Most people have heard of Covent Garden or Camden Lock Market, but the city is actually bursting with markets of all types most of the year. There are vintage clothing fairs, books and record vendors – including rare original vinyl, now selling for collector’s prices – and food markets galore. A quick search for ‘markets in [whichever area you’re in]’ will soon have you heading out, hoping to score a quick bargain, or even just stroll around and people watch.

London is one of the best places in the world to have some spare time, so make the most of it by checking out the many wonderful hidden places and unique experiences that the city has to offer you.
